Apollo // Spaceflight is a small flight sim in miniature, drawn entirely in ASCII on a mission-control screen.

Count down, lift off, stage away, and coast through the dark toward one of the seven other planets of the solar system — drawn at random each flight. Steer clear of the rocks, pick up stardust, and mind your fuel.

The flight

  • A three-stage launch vehicle lifts off, stages, and jettisons its escape tower on the way up.
  • The cruise is 12 challenges: rock fields, micrometeoroids, comet tails, stardust runs, nav corridors, coast phases, burn windows and solar flares.
  • Pass a challenge and the science team sends down a line about where you're headed.
  • Rocks dent the hull. Boost doubles your speed but drains the tank fast — run dry and you're left drifting.
  • Make orbit to learn something real about your destination and see your score: stardust, challenges passed, hull and fuel left, plus a bonus for a quick flight.

Details

  • Rendered glyph-by-glyph as a living ASCII scene.
  • Sound is fully synthesized — engine rumble, staging clanks, the Quindar pips of the Apollo loop — with a CAPCOM voice calling the flight (English & Vietnamese).
  • Plays in English and Vietnamese — switch any time.
  • Keyboard or touch. No install, no account.

Controls

  • Steer: ← → or A / D
  • Boost: hold Space
  • Mute: M
  • Touch: hold the left/right side to steer, hold the middle to boost

Distances are each planet's closest approach to Earth. The flight, admittedly, runs a little quicker than real life.
